Disabilities faced by students while learning and how to diagnose it

Disabilities

Learning disabilities are due to the way the brain is structured and how it functions. The problems vary from one child to another in different ways. Unfortunately, such children are often presumed to possess lower intelligence than their peers.

They have a learning disability that prevents them from reaching their potential. It is essential to understand and treat why they are struggling in some particular fields. This would give the required help needed to develop study skills for students with learning disabilities.

Curing Reading Disabilities or Dyslexia

Children with reading difficulties show a lack of enthusiasm for reading. They show signs of reading at a slow pace or are not confident to read out aloud. Such children may experience difficulty in perceiving a spoken word. They find it as a combination of distinct sounds that are hard to understand.

Diagnosing it at the earliest would help a child evolve through time to keep reading at a typical pace. Whatever they read, they would be able to understand better. They would also be able to recall what they have learned by making inferences based on what they have read. They would also improve their spelling skills.

Disabilities with Math Skills are Improved

Early signs of math problems can be detected when the child finds difficulties learning to count or recognize numbers. They might face problems in understanding the concept of time and also keeping track of time.

Sometimes they show defiance and excessive emotional reactions at school, such as solving a problem or doing homework. Learning disabilities in Math or dyscalculia can be improved if it is detected quite early. The child with dyscalculia shows signs of anxiety over a math problem due to its inability to solve it. They try to skip studying math or find out ways to avoid the subject.

If the problem is understood at an early stage, the child will understand how numbers work and relate to each other. They will be able to do out the basic calculations using math symbols. They will find it easier to understand word problems and organize and record information while solving a problem.

Writing requires a combination of visual, motor, and information-processing skills. Children finding difficulties in writing fail to write what they want. They also can’t complete their homework and assignments without significant help.

Once treated earlier, the child with dysgraphia improves his or her ability to comprehend and synthesize information. Their handwriting gets better and troubles with spellings become less. They would be able to organize and express their thoughts well on paper. Proper mentoring improves their consistency of writing and increases coherence.

Disabilities in Language

The inability to understand or produce a spoken language is known as aphasia or dysphasia. The output of a language is an activity. We organize our thoughts in our brain and call upon the right words to verbally express something or communicate with someone.

Treating this problem can help a child retell a story, have fluency in speech, understand the meaning of words, parts of speech, etc. The child will be able to understand and follow instructions well. Without early intervention, the child will face more difficulties while solving complex problems. With the right help, the child will be able to overcome the challenges.

Improved Social Skills

Children who have been facing learning difficulties also suffer from anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, proper determination, and motivation loss. They try to act out to distract the attention of his mates and teachers at school. They feel aloof from society.

This creates more problems in developing study skills for students with learning difficulties. They need to be taken care of by the parents, guardians, teachers, and the concerned evaluators to tackle their problems and drive their motivation to develop their academic skills.

Their ability to pay attention would increase, and they will stay more organized in life. Their memory gets improved, and they will have lesser difficulties while focusing on a given task. The right learning strategies would empower the children with greater insight to ultimately lead them into their full learning potential.

Guiding them well at the right time would not only improve their study skills but also enhance their behavioral problems to have a routine and prosperous life in the future.

Learning disabilities do not stop or fall behind if not taken care of at the earliest.

It won’t seem significant initially, but once the students reach higher grades, the disabilities become more apparent. This means that they have already fallen behind because their problems are not diagnosed and treated in time. The study skills for students with learning disabilities can be developed with positive reinforcement and treatment.
