What is MOLLE?

MOLLE, pronounced “Molly”, is a versatile and secure mounting system that is perfect for attaching MOLLE pouches and accessories to either rows of heavy-duty nylon fabric or metal grid panels. This system makes it easy to have on-the-go access to everything you need, without having to worry about it getting lost or damaged.

How to Use a MOLLE System

Most MOLLE attachment systems come with MOLLE-specific straps that are designed to weave in and out of the equipment or panel you’re adding them to. These sticks are securely snap shut to hold your attachments in place. To attach your MOLLE gear to a compatible webbed or grid platform, follow these steps:

  1. Choose a location to attach your gear.
  2. Experiment with the placement of your MOLLE pouches on top of your backpack, other equipment or panel to determine the best configuration before attaching anything.

To attach your MOLLE attachments start by holding onto the end of the strap with the snap attached. Then, thread the strap through bottom row of nylon webbing that your MOLLE attachment will be align with, snap side up. Weave the strap through first row of nylon webbing on backside of the attachment, tightening  then you go. Continue weaving strap through the webbing on your equipment or grid on your panel and the attachment till all that remains are the snaps or buttons at top.

If your attachment has multiple straps, you’ll need to repeat this process for each strap until the entire attachment is secure. Once you have the attachment in the right position, use snaps or buttons to keep it in place.

Tips for Using MOLLE Gear

These tips can help you attach your MOLLE-compatible equipment more quickly and efficiently:

For attachments with multiple straps, weave both straps through the nylon webbing or grid panel simultaneously. MOLLE sticks and straps are usually rigid, so it can make the process easier if you alternate between the sticks while you’re weaving.

As you weave your sticks and straps through the webbing or grid sections, make sure to use every row to keep your gear as secure as possible.

You can also use ALICE clips with MOLLE gear but these outdated clips are not as versatile or durable as today’s more advanced MOLLE  equipment.

When weaving your sticks and straps through the webbing or grid sections, make sure to use every row to keep your gear as secure as possible. Use all the webbing and grid sections you can on both your gear ,on your pack and vest or panel.

MOLLE doesn’t have to be difficult to use, but it can take some time to configure properly. Now that you know how MOLLE works and how to attach your accessories, you’ll always be able to outfit yourself with the gear you need for any mission – and beyond.
